Friday Oct. 2: High school football news and notes from around BC.
- According to an article in the New Westminster Record, the New Westminster Hyacks allowed so many points against Kelowna last week because they emptied their bench at the end of the third quarter with a 32-7 lead. On offence New West ran for 447 yards against Kelowna.
- From the Abbotsford News, a recap of both the Rick Hansen win over Pitt Meadows, and the W.J. Mouat loss to Centennial.
- The Coquitlam Now has a recap of the Centennial win, with a note on the Terry Fox win over VC as well. The Tri-City News has a recap of the Fox-VC game.
- A parent of a W.J. Mouat player was nice enough to send over pictures from the Mouat vs. Centennial game on Friday night. You can see Tammy Plett’s photo album on photobucket here.
- In the Kamloops this Week, an article on the South Kamloops Titans, favourites in the Okanagan Conference. The Titans, in fact, have never lost a regular season game since the Okanagan Conference came into existence six years ago.
- Also from the Kamloops this Week, a story on on the Double-A and Tier II teams in the Okanagan who are opening conference play this weekend. The story focuses on the Valleyview Vikings, NorKam Saints and Westsyde Blue Wave, who had folded in Double-A ball last season but have reemerged in Tier II.
- The Kelowna Owls will be looking to hand South Kamloops their first regular season loss in the Okanagan, an article in the Kelowna Capital News previews the Owls’ season.
- Lord Tweedsmuir might be a dangerous team in Triple-A ball this season, they blasted Holy Cross 34-0 last week, a recap is in the Surrey Now. The Surrey Leader looks at Tweedsmuir’s playoff hopes for this season.
- Hugh Boyd beat Abbotsford Christian handily last week, 42-12, and are still undefeated. The Richmond Review’s Don Fennell has an article on that game.
- Defending Double-A champs South Delta beat Ballenas last week, the recap is from the Delta Optimist.
Note: Since both SFU and UBC are in town this weekend I’m making the trip to both CIS games rather than covering high school ball this weekend. SFU takes on Saskatchewan, Friday at 7 p.m., UBC plays against Calgary at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
