Tebow could have some “Wildcat” in his future
I am not different than any other college football fan. I try to dislike Tim Tebow, but I just can’t do it.
He is simply too good. Too good of a football player. Too good of a person. If you watched a movie where Tim Tebow was a movie character, you would think the character was unrealistic.
The guy pretty much has it all covered. All except a position in the NFL.
Tebow has nothing left to prove as a football player at Florida. If he was going to be a top 5 pick then he would be gone to the NFL right now. Even though he is easily among the greatest college quarterbacks of all time, I don’t know if anyone is convinced he can play quarterback in the NFL.
Everyone seems to have suggestions for what to do with Tebow once he gets to the league.
Some say fullback. Some say tight end. Some even say linebacker.
I think Tim Layden’s idea is the best one I’ve read so far. How about “Wildcat” quarterback?
I think Layden really has something here.
The “Wildcat” formation was used all over the NFL this year and it is predicated on having a running back in a single wing formation that gives teams unique running options. Then when you least expect it, they can burn a defense with an unexpected pass.
If anyone can excel in this role, it’s Tim Tebow. He has proven he can run with power and grind out tough yardage as a quarterback in the best conference in college football. Heck, his entire freshman season he was the quintessential “Wildcat” quarterback for Florida whenever he was called upon.
You might only get ten or so plays from it a game, but Tebow could do some special things out of it. He can also be more of threat passing than any running back in the NFL out of this formation as well.
Based on his specific skill set, there is a good chance that Tebow will never be the type of quarterback in the NFL that he was in college.
I do know one thing though, Tim Tebow is a great football player. I don’t know if I would take him to be my team’s starting quarterback, but I would take him as my team’s “Wildcat” quarterback anytime.
