Big 12 Football three-way: The case for Oklahoma
What have you done for me lately? That’s exactly what Oklahoma fans should ask the other two teams in this three-way.
Because nobody in the Big 12 is running show the way OU is right now.
Since losing to Texas in mid-October, the Sooners have put up ungodly numbers offensively. 45 against Kansas, 58 against Kansas State, 62 against Nebraska, 66 against Texas A&M, then the 65-21 drumming of Texas Tech. That’s three consecutive games of 60-plus points.
That win over Texas Tech took the wind out of the Red Raiders sails all together.
But that mid-October loss still looms large. If this were a two-way tie between Texas and Oklahoma few would be putting the Sooners ahead of the Longhorns. But because of the uncertainty of a three-way tie, voters are prone to voting for the team with the hot hand, and right now that’s Oklahoma.
If the Sooners can continue their hot-streak against Oklahoma State on Saturday night and put up, let’s say… 70 points… voters will find it hard to slot them behind the Longhorns, even with the head-to-head match-up.
They need Texas Tech to beat Baylor though. The three-way tie helps no team more than it helps Oklahoma and it may just propel them to the conference title game.
