Semin calls out Crosby

http://images.tsn.ca/images/stories/20081013/semin_sm_78297.jpgI’m not even using my bias here. You get a few more points ten games into the season and think you’ve accomplished something?

Alex Semin, the NHL’s scoring leader right now at 8-8-16, told reporters that Sidney Crosby doesn’t have the qualities to be an ‘interesting’ player. Alex Semin has never won a scoring title. Alex Semin has never won an East title. Alex Semin has never won an MVP, or an Art Ross.

You know who has done that, all before the age of 21? Sidney Crosby.

Then there’s the pressure Crosby has faced. He has to deal with being the poster child of the NHL, Hockey Canada, and being a 21-year-old captain. Just as well, he’s the SOLE reason that the Penguins are still in Pittsburgh.

Alex Semin is just some punk Russian who has the luxury of playing with the most skilled player in the league in Alex Ovechkin. And what do we know about 90 per cent of European forwards? They get hurt. Think Forsberg, Bure, Gaborik. Semin will not last in this league, especially running his mouth like he did Friday.

Maybe he should try and win his team’s scoring title before saying that the former 19-year-old MVP, Art Ross and Lester Pearson trophy winner isn’t ‘interesting’ enough for him.

http://i.cnn.net/si/multimedia/photo_gallery/0706/nhl.awards/images/pearson_crosby.jpgYou do know where he’s coming from, though, playing alongside the most exciting player in the world on a nightly basis. But, just because Crosby doesn’t score as many highlight goals as Ovechkin does, doesn’t mean a thing.

Semin basically said that Crosby is a glorified Patrick Kane. Problem with that is, Kane didn’t score 102 points in his rookie year with no talent on his team other than a ready-to-retire Mario Lemieux who was solely there for leadership.

Crosby is the most talented player I’ve ever seen (keep in mind that I’m only 20). His wide stance, speed, strength on the puck, ability to win battles, and the ice vision that allows him to set up people no one else in the league could makes him interesting enough for me.

I don’t know what Semin wants out of him.

You canadians are so bias and so sensitive. Crosby is overhyped and runs his mouth too much. He and Don Cherry
have to tell non-canadians how to play the game. I like Ovechkin’s passionate play. The game has gotten so much
better with more skilled european players in the NHL.

Yeah, but let’s not forget that we Canadians invented the game, still have the majority of the players in the NHL, have won 5 consecutive WJHC on two occasions, and up until last year had a 100 year streak of a Canadian captain raising the Stanley Cup. I love Ovechkin’s play too, and I personally don’t have a problem with his goal celebrations and I do think Don Cherry is wrong most times he bashes Europeans or French-Canadians. But, we as Canadians have made this game into what it is, and all other nationalities have tried to emulate what he have done.
