Power 100 Sports Figures: Where will Tiger Fall?

http://images.tsn.ca/images/stories/20080616/Tigtrophy-s_62197.jpgIn the 2007 version of Business Weeks’ Power 100 Sports Figures, Tiger Woods sat in second place behind NFL commish’ Roger Goodell.

And for good reason. Tiger has brought fan and corporate interest to a game that has never seen it like this before.

Now, Business week has begun polling for this year’s list. With Tiger on the shelf with his bum knee, where will he fall? Well, it depends on how well the golf world does without the No. 1 around. Will Anthony Kim step up and make the world forget about Tiger? Or will the world forget about golf whatsoever?

Let’s use the TPC whatever (the one with the island green) as an example. When you watch it, you see every island green tee shot, every one of Tiger’s shots, and whatever they can fit in between.

The PGA needs Tiger. I think that’s obvious.

But, if anyone doesn’t vote for Tiger to top the list, it will just be ridiculous. Without Goodell, people still watch football. Without Selig, people still watch baseball. Can you say the same about Tiger and the PGA? Maybe, but on the national level, it’s not even close.

But, if people do continue to follow the PGA without Tiger, it could push him back in the list. Even though he was the one who got it started in the first place.

And if ratings drop, you know who’s number one.

Thankfully for Nike, they have Woods and Kim on their team.
